The Disney GameStar Advanced (JP) (DGSA) is Disney's handheld portable system initially released in Japan on March 21, 2001. A part of the sixth generation of video games, the Game Star Advanced was noted as the third and final Game Star iteration. It was succeeded by the Disney DXS line in November 2004, which, along with the DXS Lite, is backwards compatible with DGSA games. This feature was removed from the DXSi, DXSi XL, and all Disney 3DXS models. However, twenty games (ten DGSA games and ten DMES games) were given for free to those who had purchased a 3DXS before the price dropped on August 12, 2011.
In Japan, the Disney GameStar Advanced was one of the first two Disney systems to have its games rated by the Computer Entertainment Rating Organization (CERO), whose rating system had been put to use during the system's lifetime. The GameStar Advanced is backwards compatible with Disney GameStar and Disney GameStar Magic Color games, making it the only Disney console to be backwards compatible with more than one system.
The last game for the system was Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, released on October 30, 2009, though first-party development ended in November 2006. Production of the GameStar Advanced, along with its GameStar Micro, ceased production in December 2008, and system sales shipping ended on November 15, 2009, ending the classic 21-year GameStar line.
