Gameplay[]
Guitar Hero: Nightwish is similar to the preceding band-centric game, Guitar Hero: Van Halen, featuring support for five players in a single band on Guitar, and Bass, Drums, Vocals and Keyboards. The game is based on the engine originating from Guitar Hero 5, such as drop-in/drop-out play.
Only the current members of the band—Tuomas Holopainen, Emppu Vuorinen, Troy Donockley, Floor Jansen, Kai Hahto and Jukka Koskinen—are playable avatars in the game for the Nightwish songs; former band members Sami Vänskä, Tarja Turunen, Anette Olzon and Marko Hietala are not included. The band appear as they did in 2010 but, by completing challenges in the game, players can unlock their older appearances from the "spandex era […] with the big hair and tight pants".
