Gameplay[]

The title "Mix-Up" relates to the fact that this game combines gameplay elements from all the previous games in the series. There are 3 ways to race in the game. "Classic Style" is normal Mario Kart, and it is the only mode that lets you race on bikes from Mario Kart Wii. "Double Dash" is similar to Classic, however it contains the 2 characters in 1 kart from Mario Kart Double Dash, it is also the only mode that contains special items. "7 Style" plays similar to Classic, but it contains the gliding and underwater driving from Mario Kart 7, and the tracks/battle arenas transform as you race, similar to Sonic And All-Stars Racing Transformed. Each race style contains it's own cups, battle arenas, ghosts, missions, and karts. Finally, there are 12 people in a race or battle.

Mission Mode returns from Mario Kart DS. Each race style contains 50 unique missions, with 30 more avalible as DLC. All together that makes 240 missions. Each mission is different and is either set on a race track or battle course.

The game can played with up to 5 people locally, with 4 people on the TV and 1 person on the gamepad. You can also play online. "Double Dash" style contains the ability for 2 players to play co-op in a kart, one drives and one throws weapons. The control schemes are Gamepad, Wii Remote and Nunchuck, Classic Controller, or Wii Wheel. If you are playing alone on the gamepad, the screen acts a map of the track like in Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart 7. The gamepad camera can also take a photo of your face which acts as your character icon, but this is optional.

Finally, each race style contains Grand Prix, Time Trial, Mission, and Battle modes for single player. In multiplayer, the only modes are VS. and Battle mode.
