Mario V Sonic: Clash of Heroes is a platform video game that is a crossover between the Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog series developed by Sora Ltd. & Bandai Namco and published by Nintendo and Sega. It was released on July for the Nintendo Matrix and Sega Globe. It follows 2 stories: Sonic’s story and Mario’s story, which both have gameplay that borrows heavily from both franchises. The story revolves around Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Peach, Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles “Tails” Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose, and Katie the Hedgehog going on an inter-dimensional quest to stop Bowser and Eggman from colliding Mario and Sonic’s universes. It is canon to both franchises and is a sequel to both Super Mario Universe 2 and Sonic Battalion.

This story begins with Sonic and his team, the Freedom Fighters celebrating the new holiday, “Freedom Fighters Day,” until a portal opens and sucks up most of the Freedom Fighters, but Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Katie run into the portal to save them. Unfortunately, the portal brings them to another universe that their friends are not in.
Team Sonic wake up outside of a mysterious castle. They decide to find who is ruling that kingdom and ask them if they know about a portal. When they make it to the castle, they meet a mysterious mushroom creature called a Toad, who says that the queen is off with her husband, Mario. Just then, they receive a message from their queen, who says that she and Mario have found a mysterious emerald, which Team Sonic immediately figure out is one of the Chaos Emeralds. Tails uses his scanner to find where the message came from, and Team Sonic arrive at Delfino Plaza, where they find Mario, the queen, Peach, and three others, including Mario’s brother, Luigi, a gorilla named Donkey Kong, and a dinosaur named Yoshi. The two teams get into a fight over the Chaos Emeralds. Team Sonic wants to bring them back to their world while Team Mario want to use them to stop a doomsday device created by Bowser and a mysterious associate. After they fight, Team Sonic decide to split up to stop their new rivals from finding the Chaos Emeralds.
Meanwhile, in their new base, located in a rift between Mario and Sonic’s worlds, Eggman and Bowser discuss their plan to make their enemies fight each other, and how it’s going well so far. They also plan to send both of their henchmen against their enemies.
Team Sonic run after their rivals and the Chaos Emeralds, but notice familiar Eggman robots. Eventually, they fight their rivals, in many different places, including Bowser’s Castle, the Observatory, Bob-omb Battlefield, and more. They eventually join forces because they realize that their enemies are working together. Tails gets a transmission from his girlfriend, Nicole the Holo-Lynx, who tells him that the Freedom Fighters have taken control of one of Eggman and Bowser’s ships, which can travel between worlds. They agree to meet up in Green Hill.
Mario and Sonic’s teams use the Chaos Emeralds to transport back to Sonic’s world. They search through Green Hill and eventually meet up with the Freedom Fighters.

Gameplay[]
The gameplay of Mario V Sonic: Clash of Heroes has gameplay reminiscent of both franchises for the two different stories. For both stories, you can choose which character you play as before you play the stage, but sometimes, you need to play as a certain character because it’s their perspective in the story.
The Mario characters’ gameplay is reminiscent of Super Mario 64. It is an open platform gameplay that is suited to everyone’s abilities. While it is sometimes linear and revolves around simply getting to the goal, it also sometimes becomes nonlinear and revolves around doing quests and finding objects.
The Sonic characters’ gameplay is reminiscent of Sonic Heroes. It is a 3D platformer gameplay style that has many similarities to the original Sega Genesis games, as well as the Sonic Adventure games. It is suited to everyone’s abilities and has alternate paths for some of the characters with different abilities. Much like Mario’s gameplay, it is sometimes linear and revolves around getting to the goal, but also sometimes nonlinear and revolves around collecting objects in quests.
