Pokémon Kart X, Pokémon Kart Y, and Pokémon Kart Z are triad versions of a racing game developed by Greninja Fan Studios. They were released for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U on October 17, 2013 within the first week of Generation VI and are the sixth installment of Pokémon Kart. 649 Pokémon species return from Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova, while the 72 new Pokémon species native to Kalos are introduced.
There are forty-eight vehicles in Pokémon Kart X, Y, and Z. There are 24 karts and 24 bikes (15 inside drift and 9 outside drift), each divided into 3 size classes, making 8 and 8 (6 inside drift and 2 outside drift for Small, 5 inside drift and 3 outside drift for Medium, and 4 inside drift and 4 outside drift for Large) available to each character, 4 and 4 (2 inside drift and 2 outside drift) to begin (thus half of the vehicles are unlockable). The Standard Karts and Bikes are untyped, while the remaining forty-two vehicles are typed. Each vehicle has seven stats, which are as follows:
Speed: How high the top speed of the vehicle is. Doesn't affect off-road travel. Negatively correlated with acceleration.
Weight: How heavy the vehicle is. With a higher weight, the player can knock lighter vehicles by ramming them. Weight also affects the angle at which the vehicle jumps, with heavier vehicles jumping at a lower angle. Finally, heavier vehicles bounce less upon landing.
Acceleration: How quickly the vehicle achieves its top speed from a non-moving position. Negatively correlated with speed.
Handling: How tight the vehicle can normally turn. Usually opposes drift.
Drift: How tight the vehicle turns when drifting. Usually opposes handling.
Off-Road: How much speed the vehicle retains when travelling on off-road terrain. A low rating of this can slow the vehicle significantly. Vehicles with a high off-road stat slide less when driving on ice. There exist several types of off-road terrain which vary in intensity.
Turbo: How effective a boost will be. While all vehicles can perform a blue spark turbo, only karts and outside drifting bikes can execute an orange spark turbo, and only karts can perform a purple spark turbo. Has no effect on the standing turbo.
Each size class has sixteen vehicles, and the size classes are as follows:
Small: Small vehicles tend to do well in almost every stat, except for speed and weight.
Medium: Medium vehicles have slightly better speed and weight, but do a bit worse everywhere else.
Large: Large vehicles have noticeably better speed and weight, but do significantly worse everywhere else.
The forty-eight vehicles are divided into seven stat classes, which are as follows:
Standard Class: This stat class has relatively average stats across the board.
Slow Class: This stat class has the best handling of any stat class, as well as very good acceleration, off-road, and turbo. However, it is the slowest stat class and has low drift.
Drifter Class: This stat class has the best drift and turbo of any stat class, as well as good speed. However, it has the worst acceleration of any stat class, as well as low handling and off-road.
Offroader Class: This stat class has the best off-road of any stat class, above average acceleration and handling, and average speed. However, it has the worst drift of any stat class and below average turbo.
Fast Class: This stat class is the fastest stat class, but has the worst handling, off-road, and turbo of any stat class in addition to low acceleration and below average drift. It is the weakest stat class overall in terms of stats.
Charger Class: This stat class has the best acceleration of any stat class, very good handling and drift, and good off-road and turbo. However, it is the lightest stat class overall and has low speed. It is the strongest stat class overall in terms of stats.
Freighter Class: This stat class is the heaviest stat class overall and has decent speed in addition to average acceleration, handling, drift, and off-road. However, it has low turbo.
