Shonen Jump Climax (少年ジャンプ CLIMAX Shōnen Janpu CLIMAX) is a crossover fighting game developed by Arc System Works and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment featuring characters from various manga series featured in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump anthology in celebration of the magazine's 55th anniversary.

Premise[]

It's chaos in the Jump worlds. A destructive kingdom known as the Jaakuna Hikari have been traveling between worlds, destroying towns and imprisoning it's heroes as slaves. Led by a privateer known as Ryōshi, the Jump Pirate decides that they need help from a powerful ally from another world, one who had saved the Dragon World once before.

With this strange ally, they are tasked with gathering the strongest heroes from across the Jump worlds to form an army to battle against the Jaakuna Hikari and save the universe from total conquest.

Gameplay[]

Shonen Jump Climax is a 2v2 fighting game, much in the vein of Blazblue Cross Tag Battle or Dragon Ball FighterZ

Players each select two characters to form a duo. One character is controlled, and another that can be switched at any time. Players can also call on this second character to perform an "Assist" move, allowing simultaneous attacks and combos with the entire team. Both characters must be defeated for a match to end.

Players can also create a character using one of the main roster's fighting styles as a base, clothing and armor, and physical features. The created fighter's personality can be altered, which influences their quotes and dialogue during the story mode, and their actions during battle.

Characters/Controversies[]

The game's launch roster features 48 playable characters from 39 different series, 38 starter characters and 14 unlockable characters from other Shueisha magazines (Weekly Shonen Jump, Jump Square, Shonen Jump +), with the custom character taking up the 50th slot.

Development[]

Before this game was announced, Bandai Namco revealed that the Spike Chunsoft, the developer for J-Stars Victory Vs, Jump Force and One Piece: Burning Blood, would not be returning to develop the next Jump title; citing the low sales of Jump Force as the reason.

On July 16th, 2022, Shonen Jump Climax was announced at the EVO 2022 championships. The first characters revealed were Son Goku, Monkey D. Luffy, Naruto Uzumaki, Tanjiro Kamado, Deku Midoriya, and Asta, with a release date for 2023. It was announced that Kalvin Lyle will serve as the game's lead character designer.
