Gameplay[]

The gameplay is very similar to the 2000 game Spider-Man. The player controls Spider-Man through linear action stages, where they must complete a certain objective. The player must retry the level if Spider-Man runs out of health. In most stages, you only play as the main version of Spider-Man, but in the final stage, you can switch between three versions of Spider-Man. The stages mostly go along with the movie, but the plot is often modified to help gameplay or add more levels. Between the different levels, there is an open world of New York, where side quests can be done.

Development[]

Development began around the same time as the movie's production began, in late 2019. Most of the development was based around creating the new engine for the game, since spoilers were given to Neversoft around November 2020. Then, the actual design began. The game was announced in September 2021, around when the first trailer for the film released. It was announced to be developed by Neversoft, the same company that made Spider-Man Classic: Updated Edition, the 2020 remake of the Spider-Man games from the early 2000s. Not much about the game was announced until the film was released.
