What if SFV was actually a good game from the start instead of require like 4 years to turn good.
Street Fighter V (ストリートファイターV Sutorīto Faitā Faibu?) is the sixth main installment in the Street Fighter series. It was initially released exclusively on the PlayStation 4 and PC, on which cross-platform multiplayer is available. When the Champion Edition update was released, a port for Xbox One was released also with cross-play functions. Finally when the last season was done it was ported for Nintendo Switch with a "Nintendo Switch Edition" with all the content in existence already in the game, this version doesn't has cross-play with the rest of versions of the game since is considered a different game.
Gameplay and Features[]
The gameplay is a bit slower than SFIV but not much, visually the game resembles artwork made by Kinu Nishimura, better known as AKIMAN, also having a watercolor-like aesthetic in contrast to SFIV's ink. The game counts with a Super meter that allows the use of EX Moves, Super Arts and Critical Arts, the last ones only being able to be used when in low health and replacing the base Super Art. It's main gimmick is the V-Gauge, a meter with a whole ecosystem of its own being used for V-Skills, V-Triggers, V-Reversal and V-Shift, the first three having unique characteristics between each character. The game also includes stage interactions similar to those of recent Mortal Kombat or Injustice games thought in a more basic way, usually involving the permanent destruction of a part of the stage, that will mantain in the same way for the rest of the match.
Unlike Street Fighter IV, gameplay expansions and changes will not come in new installments but rather gradually be added to the game over the long term. Players have the choice of paying for new characters as they are added via in-game Fight Money. Also, there will be no on-disc DLC.
The game features some single-player, character-focused content that focuses on character backgrounds like an Arcade Mode (labelled as Story Mode) where fighters have a series of fights with various of them being predefined challenges where characters interact with each other before and after the fight showing the plot of the current game about the final fight against Shadaloo and M. Bison while also fleshes out the gap between Street Fighter III and IV. Finishing single-player content will grant players fight money.
In the Challenger Edition update, players can now use a second different set of V-Trigger and V-Skill, similar to the -ISM system from Alpha 3 or the Super Art selection from SF3's series. It also adds a true Arcade Mode where players can fight in various types of ladders based on the previous 5 Street Fighter games (I, II, Alpha, III and IV) as well to V itself.
In the Champion Edition update, a new ability named V-Crush was added that was quite similar to the Focus Attack from SFIV, while also being likely a proof of concept for what it turned to be the Drive Impact in the next installment.
Characters[]
Overview[]
At launch, the game included 20 fighters, which consist of ten veterans that have appeared frequently in the series, five veterans that have not been playable since Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, and five new characters. Additional characters have been confirmed to be released at later dates. Necalli was later added in a free update. It was revealed that six characters were to be added throughout 2016 as DLC, bringing the roster count to 27 fighters.
After five season, with the last one releasing during 2021 and added six more fighters to the roster plus a free character in the form of Violent Ken, the final count was 52 characters, the largest amount in any Street Fighter game thus far, six more than in Ultra Street Fighter IV, the previous record holder. Between the characters from the last season, the last fighter served as a preview as the series' next mainline game. Purchasing the Premium Pass for this particular season adds a bonus 53th fighter, Eleven, who takes on the form of a random fighter before a match.
