Trivia[]

  • There are 2 volumes of DLC characters, along with some bonus characters.
    • The bonus DLC characters were actually meant for Volume 2, and the characters from Volume 2 were meant to be for Volume 1.
  • Adol (Ys) and Ryza (Atelier) were meant to be bonus fighters as well, but were ditched at the last second when the development started. The first one was because Ys is not popular in the Americas; the second was because the alchemy system would be too gimmicky and confusing for this game.
    • Blanc/White Heart was meant to represent the Hyperdimension Neptunia series. But her coarse language and poor way to represent Nintendo in her own franchise let down for her addition, so the devs decide to make an internal poll on which character should be in SSB:ED. Characters that were considered included: Plutia (low popularity in the Japanese fandom) MAGES. (very redundant when Kurisu is in this game), IF and Compa as a duo fighter (overcomplicating gimmick where both characters had different attacks), Nepgear/Purple Sister (would spoil the Conquest ending from Mk. 2/Re;Birth2 in any form if she had the Zehaburn sword), Uzume/Orange Heart (would be too sound-reliant with her megaphone. Works better as an Assist Trophy), the Gold Third (having to switch between four characters [B-Sha (Bandai Namco), C-Sha (Capcom), K-Sha (Konami) and S-Sha (Square Enix)] can be too "casual" for the Competitive scene, even when Ivysaur, Charizard and Squirtle got separated from the Pokémon Trainer), Vert/Green Heart (her "attributes" would increase the game's Age Rating), Shanghai-Alice (too new, and Reimu and Marisa are already in the game), NISA (ironically she's owned by Nippon Ichi Software, the company that is parodying), a character from Neptunia: Virtual Stars (C.H. doesn't own half of the cast, and they are mostly forgotten), MarvelousAQL or a character from Neptunia ✕ Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars (they are connected to a video game franchise that doesn't need a playable character), etc.
    • A character from Genshin Impact was considered, but since it's version for the Nintendo Switch has yet to be released and the impossibility of choosing one out of hundreds and hundreds of characters; plans felt through. A Honkai Impact 3rd was also considered, it's exclusion was presumedly because the game still hasn't released on the Switch or any home console (yet). The Amber Assist Trophy compensates this problem.
    • A character from Sony Interactive Entertainment/PlayStation was meant to be added. It was rejected because of the bitter past between said company and Nintendo, tracing back to the Super Nintendo days with the cancelled CD-ROM peripheral: the SuperDisc for the console; in favor of the infamous Phillips CD-I games featuring distorded versions the worlds of Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda (Hotel Mario, Link: The Faces of Evil, Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon and Zelda's Adventures).
    • Smash Heart was going to be playable, but She was too powerful and would break the metagame.
  • Original smashified renders by Team Destination, Omadadestiny, JoeTERender, Nibroc-Rock and BraveDragonWolf.
