Video Game Fanon Wiki

(Creator's note: yep, another page by SonyDraws4238 even though I'm not even done with Disney Dream-Team Duels. I just had ideas that I wanted to share so I made this page.)

Super Smash Bros. Rebound is a hypothetical concept for the next entry in the Super Smash Brothers series. Despite being a follow up to Super Smash Bros Ultimate, this game concept would be a soft reboot of the entire series, refreshing many of the series' concepts and bringing new life to old fighters.

The core idea for most of the Fighter related changes in this concept is "What if every veteran franchise in Smash Bros caught up with all their latest releases? (and for dead franchises: What if they got the Pit treatment from Brawl?)"

With that in mind, this hypothetical would focus more on new releases and refreshed takes on older ideas.

The core mechanics of Smash Bros will remain, but the subtitle of this project isn't just for show... a whole new mechanic would be introduced to change the way you play... the Rebound Barrier. When a battle begins, the areas off screen will act as solid boundaries, and any fighters and items that get knocked in it get bounced back. However, when an opponent with just enough damage percent gets launched into the boundary... they break through, causing the barrier to disappear, leading into a more traditional Smash experience.

(Creator's note: I'll write about some other changes I had in mind soon, please be patient)

Character Roster[]

(Disclaimer: this is an active Work in Progress as I haven't touched most of these franchises in a while. All fighters without descriptions can be assumed to have little changes from Ultimate)

SSB Rebound Roster Mock Up SonyDraws4238

A visual mock up of this game's character roster.

Super Mario Bros. series:

Mario - The well rounded hero of the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario's moveset will remain very similar to his Smash Bros Ultimate incarnation, but with small flourishes that bring him closer to his home series. Mario's side special is now Cappy Throw, a sidewards hat toss that can reverse incoming projectiles and can act as an extra platform if Mario holds the special button. The F.L.U.D.D move can now be angled downwards to propell Mario upwards. His Smash attacks also recieve small visual updates to reflect elements of the series, such as the Firebrand in his Side Smash and invisible "?" Blocks in his Up Smash.

Luigi - Mario's timid little brother. Luigi's attacks will pull plenty of inspiration from Luigi's Mansion, as well as his appearances in the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi series. Luigi in a sense becomes more of a grappler, using the Poltergust G-00 to draw opponents near and toss them about.

Princess Peach

Princess Daisy

Yoshi

Bowser

Wario - A selfish treasure hunter with a side hustle as a game company CEO. Wario's playstyle is all about throwing yourself at your opponent with wild abandon, echoing the game style of the Wario Land series. His new side special; the Shoulder Bash Dash, sends Wario blazing in a mad dash to hit opponents, carrying enough momentum to do all sorts of crazy manuevers and combos. Wario's Neutral Special, "Bite" now has a special mechanic when it comes to eating certain items and projectiles. Depending on what he ate, he'll gain a Flavor Power inspired by the power ups of Wario Land that'll briefly take over his Neutral Special. Eating something spicy or hot would make him breathe fire blasts, eating something fueled with Aura or Electricity fuels him with an energetic electric charge, and maybe eating something cold would give him a minty breath attack.

Waluigi - the rapscallion partner in crime of Wario who cheats at every turn. Waluigi's habit of playing tricks on his friends translates to much of his moveset in this game. Waluigi's Neutral Special, Tennis Ace, makes him swing anything besides a tennis ball forward. These projectiles can bounce off of the stage, the Rebound Barrier, and even off other fighters. His Down Special lets him roll an item dice from Mario Party, randomly giving him different items from across the Mario series... Miyamoto forbid he gets a Super Star.

Geno - Faithful Protector of the Stars who possesses a puppet to aid Mario and Co. on a wild adventure. This heavy hitting doll likes to steamroll into his opponents through fierce celestial themed attacks, but can hardly take a hit himself thanks to his lightweight vessel. Geno would not only pull from attacks from Super Mario RPG, but also reference titles such as Paper Mario and Mario + Rabbids, making the character a celebration of Mario Role Playing Games. (Creator's Note: i hope you are happy)

Donkey Kong series:

Donkey Kong - The Leader of the Kong crew, you know him well. Donkey Kong would receive a few tweaks to his moveset to further ground him into the world of Donkey Kong. Notably, his new Side Special; Barrel Toss, calls back to Cranky Kong's old tricks by hurling a barrel on the ground that can occasionally drop Letter Panels. If Donkey Kong collects all 4, he instantly gains a Final Smash. Donkey Kong's new Down Special pulls from his latest appearance in Donkey Kong Bananza... literally. Tear Off allows DK to grab a large chunk from the stage, which changes his other specials to interact with it. He can Swing the rock around with Neutral Special, Turf Surf with it using Side Special, Toss it aside with Down Special, or Chunk Jump off it with Up Special. His Final Smash in this game is Konga Line, where DK traps his opponents in a barrel and a cutscene plays of Him, Chunky, Lanky, Tiny, and Cranky throwing the barrel around in a rough game of jungle volleyball, before DK himself finishes it off in his Kong Banaza form. Pauline, in her Donkey Kong Bananza form, appears in his Taunts.

Diddy Kong & Dixie Kong

King K. Rool

Stanley - An everyman with old blood against Donkey Kong. This fighter is a modernized take on Donkey Kong's rival from the earlier days of the franchise. Sort of a Mr Game and Watch replacement.

The Legend of Zelda series:

Link - The valiant mute hero of Hyrule. In this game, Link takes on his appearance from Tears of The Kingdom. His abilities will also be taken from that installment, such as Ultrahand and Ascend. He will also be able to use the Sheikah Slate Runes with his down special and in new throw animations.

Princess Zelda
- Incarnation of the Goddess Hylia and royal protector of Hyrule. The princess will take on her A Link To The Past appearance in this game, but her attacks will now embody more of the magical aspects of the series. For starters, Zelda can now call upon the magic medallions for her Smash Attacks, and her new Down Special has her calling upon the powers of Tri to summon a selection of Echoes.

Ganondorf - Destined vessel of the demon Demise. This prince of darkness will use a design reminiscent of his Twilight Princess appearance in this game, with a new moveset to match his power. A notable addition to his kit is his Neutral Special: Deadman's Volley. Ganondorf can shoot out balls of hateful energy to force them to react... lest they reflect it back, then it becomes the Hylian pasttime of Tennis.

The Mysterious Murasame Castle:

Takamaru

Metroid series:

Samus - Infamous bounty hunter on the run from her former allies. In this game, Samus will adopt many mechanics from Metroid Dread and Metroid Prime as part of her kit. Her playstyle will change to a more proactive defense style, encouraging players to bait their opponents at a distance and catch them with her new Melee Counter move. You can now also enter the Morph Ball form, which changes the way Samus moves and attacks when activated.

Ridley

Sylux

Kid Icarus series:

Pit - The adorkable general to Palutena's Army. In this game, Pit would shed quite a bit of his platformer roots to focus on emulating the combat of Kid Icarus: Uprising. Pit's neutral special Palutena Bow is now a non aimable single shot attack with decent damage and good knockback, but with the added ability to dash forward or backward with the tilt of the joystick to fire three shots. When Pit is in free fall, you can freely aim Neutral Special with the joystick. Pit can now also hover in the air, which allows for more movement options after using Power of Flight. His Down Special is now the Shock Orbitars. After charging for 4 seconds, the Orbitars surround pit, changing his Neutral Special projectiles into rapid fire shots and giving him a lightning bolt burst attack if he charges down special. The orbitars go away after Pit has been damaged enough times or some time has passed. Other weapons from Uprising, such as Palms, Clubs,Claws, and Canons, appear in his tilts, Smash attacks, and throws.

Palutena - The revered Goddess of Skyworld with a little bit of a fun loving atitude. In this game, Palutena would showcase a lot of her quirkier and playful atitude, as if she's entertaining the idea of fighting for fun. Her side special, Centurion, allows her to summon a Centurion she could use as both a human shield and a projectile in reference to the Final Boss of the NES Kid Icarus. Her other attacks and specials will also be reworked to take inspiration from her Boss encounters in Uprising.

Punch-Out! series:

Little Mac

Panel De Pon/Puzzle League series:

Lip - Guardian Fairy of the Flower world, this little gal's not all sweetness, as her spunky attitude and determination to save her friends brings out a little spice to her attitude. Lip would be a frantic, reaction based fighter with a unique ability to summon rows of blocks out of the stage. Line up any of the same color to create damaging explosions or use your down special to summon an Enemy Block under your feet, crashing down on your blocks and causing an explosive chain reaction. Her cursor from the original games can even help in throwing around your opponents.

Star Fox series:

Fox McCloud

Falco Lombardi

Wolf O'Donnell

F-Zero series:

Captain Falcon - Proud Pilot of the Blue Falcon Machine. Captain Falcon brings his recognizable high risk high reward playstyle that embodies much of F-Zero's gameplay.

Mighty Gazelle - A Cyborg on a mission. Mighty Gazelle would embody the resource management aspect of an F-Zero race. Over the course of battle, Gazelle would begin to accumulate damage to his metal body, affecting the speed of his attacks. As such, players would need to tread carefully and keep a good distance between themselves and their opponents.

Mother/Earthbound series:

Teddy - The no-cares-given leader of the violent Bla-Bla-Gang. This rough-housing rocker from Ellay brings with him a wild and in your face play style. Fighting with knives, music equipment, and other nasty surprises, this brute will go out of his way to make a mess out of the battlefield (and your face!) Be sure to avoid him when he throws out Flea Bags... it can lead into a sick combo when he whips out the Insecticide.

Ness

Kumatora

Famicom Detective Club series:

Ayumi Tachibana - Bright eyed detective determined to bring justice. The memory based logic gameplay of the Famicom Detective Club series is translated through Ayumi's Specials, which have to be used in a certain order to take Notes of evidence off her opponents. When enough Notes have been gleamed from a particular fighter, Ayumi can place them all into a super move that could KO her opponents... provided she doesn't miss.

Pikmin series:

Olimar & Oatchi - Deliveryman stranded on a strange new world... and a good boy from said strange new world. Nothing much to rework for Olimar from his Smash Ultimate incarnation outside of the fact he’ll be closer to canon height (if you're concerned about visibility, He'd be on Oatchi the entire time).

Animal Crossing series:

Villager - an enigmatic avatar that's taken to living the island life. The villager in this game would take their look and abilities from their incarnation in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The Villager's many attacks would be based on recreational and nature activities found in the game. Their special mechanic involves collecting items out of opponents through normal attacks, which can be combined with their Down Special, Crafting, to upgrade the rest of their specials.

Isabelle - Loyal assistant at Resident Services. Isabelle, like the Villager, will be taking inspiration from the Animal Crossing: New Horizons game. To differentiate herself from Villager, her attacks and specials will be based around NPC activies and services offered around the Island. Her neutral special even has her singing snipets from KK. Slider's song library.

Chibi-Robo series:

Chibi-Robo - This pocket sized helper robot is ready to make his masters happy by all means necessary. Using a variety of household tools, trinkets, and his trusty plug, he'll sweep, snip, and ziplash his way into cleaning up the clutter of battle. Just don't get too carried away with your chores, or you'll drain your energy and need a pit stop by your personal charging station.

Rhythm Heaven:

Barista - A down to earth Dog DJ with an interest in keeping rhythm. Barista brings with him the explosive beat and zany musical charm of Rhythm Heaven into Smash. His many attacks can be extended through well timed a inputs. His specials also require a certain timing to perform, so brush up on the beat and be prepared to flick, tap, and mash your way to victory.

Splatoon series:

Inkling

Octoling

ARMS:

Min Min

Nintendo LABO:

Jerry Riggs - an aged inventor with a knack for cardboard creativity. Jerry enters the battle strapped up with the various Nintendo Labo accessories, such as the Robot Kit on his back and the VR kit on his temples. As such, his moveset has the player finding unique ways of using the various Toy-Con to trap and outplay his opponents. His down special makes him drop one of the several Plug Ins from the House Toy-Con, which activates all sorts of effects such as spraying water jets or making trampoline platforms.

Ring Fit Adventure:

Ring Fit Trainer

Kirby series:

Kirby

King Dedede

Meta Knight

Bandana Waddle Dee

Pokèmon series:

Pokèmon Trainer - An adventurous youth who dares to Catch Em All! In this game, your Pokèmon Trainer can take the form of Red, Kris, Brendan, Hilda, Serena, Elio, Victor, or Juliana. Their roster of Pokémon has also been refreshed, allowing players to swap between Charizard, Servine, and Mudkip in battle. Charizard's playstyle follows the risk heavy hard hitter archetype, Servine would be all about distance based attacks and projectiles, while Mudkip is all about applying debuffs and hinderances on the opponent. Once per stock,, the player may hold shield and press B to activate one of three Held Item effects: Focus Band, Ability Shield, and Oran Berries.

Pikachu - The world famous Electric Type Pokèmon. Pikachu would mostly play the same as his existing Smash Ultimate incarnation, with a few tweaks to tie the Pokèmon further into the series. His Side Special is now Iron Tail, a sideward spinning slash attack. Pikachu would also gain new smash attacks, notably his Down Smash has him using Surf, and his Up Smash references Volt Shock Fist (because that would be hilarious). Pikachu's grab now has him using Electro Web right in front of him, which he combos into Electro Ball in his throws. For bis Final Smash, Pikachu calls upon the command of his greatest ally Ash Ketchum, and together they unleash the Z-Move: Volt Tackle!

Jigglypuff

Mewtwo

Decidueye

Cinderace

Quaquaval

Akari/Rei - Visitors of the ancient region of Hisui, These Pokèmon Trainers tend to observe their Pokèmon up close and in their natural habitats, and as such they bring their hunting and luring techniques to the battle.

Fire Emblem series:

Marth - Famed saviour of Archanea. This Hero Prince strikes his way into battle with grace and good will. Marth will retain much of his distance based playstyle from the previous Smash Bros Games, but it would be supplemented by an entirely new mechanic. Marth can now deploy Forma of allies from his original game onto grid spaces across the stage. Opponents caught in range of these spaces will trigger the effect of the Forma, such as an upward launching strike from Caeda, a long reaching spear jab from Jaegen, or a slowness spell from Merric.

Tiki - Scion of the Divine Dragons. Tiki is a close ally of Marth's who can shapeshift between human and dragon forms. In this game, Tiki possesses the unique playstyle of being most effective when dragging opponents out of the air, reflecting her tendency to counter Dragons in her home series. Tiki won't be able to maintain her dragon form for long in this game, only using it as part of attacks and special animations. Her Up Special, Aerobatics, can be used to spike opponents downwards. You can also use Breath of Fog, her Side Special, to try and knock opponents to the skies yourself.

Roy - Successor of Eliwood, this young lion brings his wits and optimism into a whole new kind of Smash Bros. Taking more from his Blazing Blade gameplay and subsequent appearances, Roy's reworked moveset would be focused on keeping a good distance from his opponent, pushing on to strike but being evasive when the tides are turning. As the boy now showcases his goodhearted and inquisitive nature from his source material, Roy would be considerably less shouty in this game.

Ephraim

Ike

Edelgard

Kiran - A mysterious cloaked figure who can summon Heroes from across time and space. Armed with a variety of sacred weapons, Kiran goes into battle with the aid of the Order of Heroes, with a new ally appearing in practically every attack animation.

Golden Sun series:

Isaac - Hapless hero of the village of Vale. He and his friends found themselves in a wild adventure as the primordial power of Alchemy came rushing all throughout Weyward. Issac may seem like your typical anime swordsman, but his powerful Psynergy attacks aren't to be underestimated. Having access to spells such as Move, Quake and Spire, Issac can manipulate the stage status and make it difficult for opponents to approach. That isn't his only trick though, as sustaining enough damage in battle gives him access to his Djinni. Issac can set either Venus, Ramses, or Cybele as his Djinni, however once used, he cannot use them again for the duration of the match.

Xenoblade Chronicles series:

Shulk

Tora & Poppi

Mio

Bayonetta series:

Bayonetta

Dillon's Rolling Western series:

Dillon - The rip-roaring ranger of the wild west. Dillon is a speedy fighter who dashes around to save towns from the evil Grocks, and much of his moveset takes from the combat mechanics in his games. Dillon can dash into his opponents with his side special: Roll Out, and combo into it with his aerial slashing attacks. His gimick has him filling up a Resource meter with each successful combo, which could be expended to give him a Saloon's worth of new upgrades, such as Claw Attachments and Firearms.

Stages[]

Mario Series:

Mount Beanpole - A familiar Mario world with tons of new twists. this stage, inspired by the Super Nintendo World attractions and Super Mario 3D World, is meant to be a pure distillation of the Mario experience. Fighting on a platform of blocks up against the mountain, Question Blocks, Snake Blocks, Para Troopas and more will occasionally pop into the fight. Two pipes situated on either end of the stage can be used by fighters to teleport out of sticky situations, but be wary of the Piranha Plant that could be lurking inside.
