The Bad Guys is an Action Game based off the 2022 DreamWorks Animation film The Bad Guys.

Plot[]

The game will closely follow the plot of the film, but with a few creative liberties.

In a world where humans and anthropomorphic animals coexist, pickpocket and robber Mr. Wolf (Nolan North) leads The Bad Guys, a gang of infamous criminal animals known for their thefts and escapades. His gang consists of his best friend and safecracker Mr. Snake (Rodger Bumpass), expert hacker Ms. Tarantula (Awkwafina), master of disguise Mr. Shark (Kevin Michael Richardson), and loose cannon/muscle Mr. Piranha (James Arnold Taylor). After their heists, they narrowly avoid getting arrested by their arch-nemesis, aggressive police chief Misty Luggins (Alex Borstein).

After a bank heist one day, the gang is insulted by Governor Diane Foxington (Jennifer Hale) on live television for their predictability. Wolf convinces his gang to pull off a heist to steal a valuable award, the Golden Dolphin, before it is awarded to guinea pig philanthropist Professor Marmalade (Tom Kenny). At the awards ceremony, Wolf inadvertently helps an elderly woman (Mary Jo Catlett) and feels good for it, which arise conflicted feelings on him and delay their escape, resulting in their arrest by Luggins. Afterwards, Luggins quickly admits that finally arresting the Bad Guys is boring. Secretly planning to steal the award again, Wolf persuades Foxington to let Marmalade reform them. Marmalade's initial attempts to reform the gang are disastrous due to the gang's nature. During the lessons, Wolf finds himself rescuing a cat from a tree, which Marmalade records and publishes, turning the public image of the gang around. However, Snake fears that Wolf is losing sight of the plan.

At a charity event set up by Marmalade, the gang execute another heist to steal the award, but Wolf, having been convinced by Foxington that he and his gang could actually do good, ultimately decides to take the offer of a fresh start. Suddenly, all of the charity event's money and a meteorite which was on display are stolen, and the gang is blamed and arrested. Marmalade meets them in private and tauntingly reveals that he stole the money and had planned for the gang to be framed as the first step of his plan for world domination. He also reveals that he was the old woman Wolf had helped at the awards ceremony. Snake reveals that he is a double agent, having been secretly hired by Marmalade right before the Bad Guys' first heist of the award and is the one who stole the meteorite so he could use it on Marmalade's new invention "The Superconductive Magnetic Mind-Controlling Infindibulator". After Marmalade and Snake leave, a mysterious person, soon revealed to be Foxington, rescues them. Wolf identifies her as The Crimson Paw, a former criminal mastermind. Once free, the gang goes with Foxington to stop Snake and Marmalade and save the world.

Foxington and Wolf break into Marmalade's home to steal the meteorite and destroy the Infindibulator, only to be captured by Marmalade and Snake. Tarantula, Shark, and Piranha destroy the Infindibulator while foiling Marmalade's heist. But just as they are about to turn the meteorite over to the police, they decide to try and bring Snake back. During a harrowing car chase, Marmalade kicks Snake out of his helicopter to blackmail Wolf into giving him the meteorite back. The gang manage to rescue Snake and make up with him once more, incidentally destroying Marmalade's mind control helmet in the process. The police then show up to arrest the gang while Foxington tries to defend them, but just as she's about to reveal her criminal past, the gang willingly turn themselves in to take responsibility for their past actions, believing she has already made up for hers with the good she does as governor.

Marmalade attempts to take credit for recovering the meteorite and the charity event's money, but the meteorite is revealed to be a fake planted by Snake, who had decided to help Wolf stop Marmalade by secretly switching it for a meteorite-shaped lamp in his manor and rigged the real meteorite to explode, blowing up Marmalade's manor and exposing him as the thief. When the lamp falls on Marmalade, a diamond that he stole from Foxington falls out of his suit (which Wolf had originally stolen from her when they first met, but then returned to her), which Luggins and her assistants recognize as having been stolen by the Crimson Paw years ago. With his true nature exposed, and implicated as the Crimson Paw, Marmalade is arrested while the gang is credited for saving the world by a more friendlier Luggins. As the gang celebrates Marmalade's defeat, they accept that they are now proud to be good guys, get released for good behavior, join Foxington to begin their new lives, and live happily ever after.

Trivia[]

  • Awkwafina and Alex Borstein are the only two actors to reprise their role from the movie.
  • Differences from the movie:
    • Unlike the movie, the Bad Guys don't celebrate Mr. Snake's birthday in the video game. Instead they go on a bank heist.
    • Professor Marmalade's assistant Cuddles briefly appears outside Marmalade's home, where the Bad Guys prepare to enter, and never interacts with Marmalade.
    • Professor Marmalade is more villainous in this video game.
    • Professor Marmalade's true nature being revealed is extended in the game. Marmalade explains that he stole all the money from the charity fundraiser while the meteorite is stolen and uses it to buy parts to his newest invention "The Superconductive Magnetic Mind-Controlling Infindibulator", which will attach its power to the Moon, making it fall to Earth and will destroy the city, transforming every cute animal in the world into his own zombified minions to destroy the world and everyone in it, with the meteorite as its main piece. After that, he congratulates "the one who helped me", which is revealed to be Mr. Snake, explaining that he works for Marmalade. After which, Snake reveals that he secretly turned off the lights at the gala and stole the meteorite.
    • The Bad Guys aren't sent to jail for their crimes at the end of the movie. Instead, they are paroled permanently by Diane, who convinced Chief Luggins to make them work for her.
